That is an architecture problem, not a discipline one. A handheld sweep is a snapshot of one room at one moment, but asset loss happens in motion — through a door, out of a lab, into a contractor's van. So we read at three layers: the doorway, the room and the desk. Each answers a different question; none works alone.

A pair of SeeMore IntelliGate A9 UHF RFID portal readers flanking an entrance channel
The doorway is the only place where a movement can be tied to a moment.
Our IntelliGate A9 places four narrow-beam antennas on both sides of a passage: 11±1 dBi gain, circular polarization, ±40° read cone. An infrared beam-break triggers the read, so the portal stays silent until someone walks through, then flags unauthorised items with LED and buzzer alarms.
An Impinj E710 gives 0–30 dBm and 800+ tags/s on ISO 18000-6C / EPC C1G2 V2; EPC lists go out over RJ45, RS232 or RS485. Each side is 1467×420×104 mm of IP45 aluminium, DC 24V, 25 kg a pair.

The SeeMore Symo FR54A 4-port UHF RFID fixed reader, with four antenna connectors on the front edge
Knowing an asset is in the building is not knowing which room it is in. That is the job of a fixed reader driving external antennas.
Our Symo FR54A offers four RP-TNC ports, 5–33 dBm output, 800+ tags/s and 0–12 m — plus Linux 5.10 and 1 TOPS of edge compute, so your filtering logic runs on the reader, not a separate gateway.
For deeper coverage the FR38A gives eight industrial RP-TNC ports and up to 30 m; for cost-sensitive floors the FR34A is a pure reader with no OS or CPU, 0–25 m, -25 °C to +75 °C.

The SeeMore DR02A USB desktop RFID reader, used at the lending desk to register assets
Doorway and room reads are automatic; custody changes are not. When a laptop goes to a field engineer, someone still has to record who holds it.
Our DR02A makes that a two-second action: 160×105×15.5 mm, USB-powered and driver-free. In HID keyboard mode it types the EPC into whichever cell your cursor sits in — Excel, a web form, your asset system — on Windows, Android or Linux. This layer turns a movement log into an accountability log.

The AN09A UHF RFID antenna, used to extend the read zone of a fixed reader
Most rooms need four antennas. Eight is the practical ceiling.
Start with four, one per zone, mounted so beams overlap at the far wall rather than the door. Our AN09A 9 dBi circular-polarization antenna is the default: circular polarization removes any need to control how the tag sits.
Go to eight only when the room is deep, densely racked, or split by metal partitions. More antennas beat more power: eight at moderate output beat four at maximum.
"How far does it read?" is the first question we get and the least useful one.
Over-reading is the most common field failure in fixed asset management. Push 33 dBm through a high-gain antenna on an open floor and you will read the next room and the corridor. One asset then appears in three places at once — worse than a gap, because it looks correct.
We tune the other way: set the lowest power that covers the intended zone, then walk its boundary with a known tag. Range is a liability until it is bounded.
All SeeMore readers share one SDK architecture, so one integration covers the portal, the fixed readers and the desktop unit — C#, Java, C++ or Python, already proven against Odoo, SAP, WMS and MES. The protocol is documented rather than hidden, no licence ties you to our hardware, and firmware changes go to the engineers who wrote it, not a ticket queue.
